Based a Chinese legend, the Tanabata festival, is held on the 7th day of the 7th month of each year. The story of Tanabata is actually a tale of two stars that are separated by the milky way, and they are only able to meet one day a year. It is a story of romance -two star crossed lovers named Vega and Altair. According to Japanese myth Vega is called Orihime, and Altair is named Hikoboshi. It is thought that if it rains on July 7th, that Orihime has failed to make the journey to her partner Hikoboshi, and that the rain represents her tears.

To celebrate this day on July 7th at Chugoku Gakuen University, the students from the International Liberal Arts department took part in a popular Tanabata custom. Students wrote their wishes in English on paper strips, and tied these strips to a bamboo tree. Each student hopes that their wish will come true in the future. It was a wonderful event, and a yearly Japanese tradition that brings everyone hope for their dreams to come true.
