The English Speech Contest
Dec. 22nd, the International Liberal Arts Department had our first annual English speech contest. Members of the staff, and all of the 1st year students, had the wonderful opportunity to listen to 18 speeches from their 1st year classmates. The theme of the speeches ranged from future job plans to favorite hobbies, and each student made a great effort to express themselves in English. The speech was judged by 8 professors, and the criteria for judgement included: fluency, word pronunciation, originality, body language, and gestures.
Although it was very difficult for students to write a speech, memorize it, and give the speech in front of a live audience, the 1st year students were able to rise to the challenge. All of the students overcame their fear of speaking in front of a large group in English, and were able to deliver an enjoyable performance.

英語スピーチ・コンテスト
　12月22日、国際教養学部は英語スピーチ・コンテストを開催しました。スタッフのメンバーと1年生全員が、クラスメートからの18のスピーチを聞く素晴らしい機会になりました。スピーチのテーマは、将来の仕事から趣味まで多岐にわたり、各学生は英語で表現するために大いに努力をしました。スピーチは8人の教員によって審査され、判断の基準には、流暢さ、単語の発音、独創性、ボディーランゲージ、ジェスチャーが含まれていました。
　スピーチを書き、暗記し、オーディエンスの前でスピーチをすることは非常に大変でしたが、1年生はやり遂げました。学生全員が大勢の人の前で英語で話すことへの恐怖心を克服し、素晴らしいパフォーマンスを披露することができました。
